Life After LandBank

After 25 years of working with the Land Bank of the Philippines, I availed of the Separation Incentive Plan (SIP), an early retirement plan of the Bank. I began working with the bank on February 1, 1979. My last working day with Landbank was on May 30, 2004.

June 1, 2004 marked the start of my life after LandBank.

The first few months of my new life after retirement were spent on my daily exercise of brisk walking for six kilometers which took more or less one hour. I also spent most of the time in reading my favorite books on fiction.

From my retirement I was able to buy a farmlot (tumana)of about 2 hectares which was already planted to mango trees and kalamansi. The mango trees were already about 12 years old and fruit bearing. The calamansi plants were 3 years old and also bearing fruits.

The farm was a walking distance from our house in San Leonardo, Nueva Ecija which was about 100 meters. I constructed a farm house and raised native chickens, ducks (bibe), turkey (pabo), and geese (gansa).

Tending to these farm animals became my past time which proved to be therapeutic as well that I felt more energetic than before. The farm house became my "new office" where I spent most of my day time...closer to nature...listening to the twirping of birds in the trees...the sounds of turkeys while mating...while reading my favorite thriller of the day!

The farm also became the venue of most of our family gatherings, like clan reunions, birthdays, family get-together, and other activities that required large space as well as shades from the sun under the mango trees.
